Sterilization Area
Our office is in full compliance with Public Health Ontario’s Infection Prevention and Control Checklist for Dental Offices
Public Health Ontario (PHO) has developed this checklist for IPAC Core Elements in Dental Practice in collaboration with the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO), the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario (CDHO), and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC). Learn more about this checklist below.
What is done:
We use gloves and masks whenever treating patients. Hands are washed with soap and water and are dried thoroughly or rubbed with a hand sanitizer before we glove.
In the operatory all surfaces exposed during the procedure are sprayed and wiped down using high level disinfectants.
All water and suction lines are disinfected between patients and nightly to remove the bacterial growth.
Plastics, rubber dams, papers, gauze, foam trays, gloves or anything else disposable are discarded after the procedure.
Sharps, needles, glass and scalpels, are disposed of in a puncture-proof container at point of use.
All handpieces (or drills) are lubricated and sterilized.
All instruments used during treatment are reprocessed (or sterilized) at the Steri-Center and are either placed into an instrument cassette or bagged in a sterilization pouch. The instruments are pre-washed in an instrument washer to remove stubborn debris and then placed into an Autoclave. We verify sterilization effectiveness mechanically, chemically and biologically. Every load is logged by time, date, the contents and whether it was successful
The time/date stamp, sterilizer and load # of the cassettes and/or pouches used on you are recorded in your chart.
All sterilization equipment is inspected and maintained on the schedule recommended by the manufacturer.
Your health matters to us so, you can be assured we are taking the latest precautions to make your visit safe.
Digital Radiography
Our practice has a ScanX digital radiographic (X ray) system. Digital radiography has many advantages over traditional dental x-rays
- It’s faster
- We can view images instantly.
- There’s up to 90 percent less radiation.
- We can enhance images in a variety of ways to improve viewing.
- Images can be stored electronically for instant retrieval in the future, if needed.
- We avoid the chemicals used in the traditional developing process.
With digital radiography, x-rays are taken the same way as conventional methods except that a small phospur plate is inserted into the mouth. This plate is very sensitive to the x-rays and therefore requires less radiation for each image. The amount of X-ray radiation is reduced by up to 90 percent. Once the x-ray is taken the plate is place into a special computer scanner and once scanned it appears on the computer monitor to be viewed. On the computer we can see details and make adjustments that are a tremendous help in our diagnosis. The images are also saved in your electronic chart for instant retrieval when necessary
iTero Element Scanner
We’ll Make a Great First Impression
Guy Dentistry uses the iTero scanner for your benefit. The iTero Element Scanner is a digital impression system that eliminates the need for messy putty in your mouth. With our iTero Element Scanner, we can digitally capture a detailed 3D model of your teeth and gums. Not only is this process far more comfortable than the old putty based impressions, but it’s faster and can offer a superior clinical endpoint.
- No goop or gag to worry about
- the fast, accurate impression allows for a precise fit of crowns and bridges
- Eliminates the need to retake impressions
During the impression process, you can breathe or swallow as you normally would. You can even pause during the process if you need to sneeze or just want to ask a question. The scanner gives us a 3D model of your mouth that can be used for your dental services including the Invisalign Outcome Simulator to show you what your new smile might look like.
