WHAT HAPPENS ON MY FIRST VISIT?
Unless there is some immediate concern or urgency, the first visit at our office involves:
- A very thorough comprehensive examination of your entire masticatory (chewing) system that lasts approximately an hour. Therefore a cleaning is not done at this appointment.
- A review of your dental and medical history before the oral examination.
- Once this information is documented we will perform a through oral examination, beginning with an oral cancer exam.
- An examination of your gums for evidence of periodontal disease.
- An examination of your teeth.
- Any necessary x-rays to detect pathology or decay that can’t be seen visually, will be taken.
- A bite analysis.
- We check your jaw-joints for any abnormalities or signs of TMJ problems.
- Using an intra-oral camera we will point out any evidence of problem or disease in your teeth or gums.
- An explanation of the findings and the best way to begin treatment.
It is our role to examine your entire chewing system and assess its current status, make a diagnosis and develop a master treatment plan that will achieve optimal comfort, function, health and esthetics.
